Previous employment

Tony has a developed an outstanding blend of skills in law, business, policy, communications, and economic-related issues, which draws on his experience with:

  • Chapman Tripp, one of New Zealand's leading law firms, for whom Tony worked as a corporate and commercial lawyer (1984-1989)
  • US Senator Carl Levin, for whom Tony worked as an intern in Washington DC (1990)
  • Thales Group (previously Thomson-CSF), a large multi-national electronics company based in Paris, France, where Tony worked as a commercial lawyer on a variety of negotiations and contracts (2000-01)
  • Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, to which Tony was seconded from Chapman Tripp, working in the (non-political) Policy Advisory Group (1991-98)
  • Producer Board Project Team, an interdisciplinary group of which Tony was the leader (1999)
  • Consulting to a range of companies and organisations including Genesis Energy on their Initial Public Offering (2013-14), their acquisition of NZOG’s 15% stake in the Kupe oil and gas field (2016), their acquisition of Nova’s LPG business (early 2017), and the ‘strategic review’ of their 46% stake in the Kupe oil and gas field (2020/21).
